Ruto appoints Muthaura as Kenyatta University Chancellor

President William Ruto has embarked on a series of key appointments within the education sector, with the most significant announcement being the selection of seasoned leader Francis Muthaura as the new Chancellor of Kenyatta University.
In a gazette notice dated January 10, 2024, President Ruto exercised his powers under the Universities Act to appoint Muthaura to the prestigious five-year post. He is expected to assume his official duties on January 12, 2024.

This appointment signals a new chapter for Kenyatta University, one of Kenya's leading academic institutions. Muthaura's extensive experience in public service, finance, and education is expected to serve the university well as it navigates its strategic priorities and strives to maintain its position as a top-tier educational hub.
However, the news of Muthaura's appointment wasn't the only notable change within the education sector. President Ruto also announced the appointment of Charles Nyachae as the new chairperson of the Council of Kenya School of Government, effective January 24, 2024. This position comes with a term lasting until July 12, 2025, replacing Njoki Kahiga who previously held the role.
Additionally, Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu appointed Winnie Wangui Mwaito to serve as a member of the Council of Karatina University for a three-year term, starting January 19, 2024.
